In effect, upscaling can work against itself. In an effort to gain a higher resolution, older program can appear less sharp as they're stretched beyond the boundaries they were originally meant to be viewed in. Better resolutions will always be desirable on desktop computers.
That's why 4K computer monitors also upscale input to the full xp resolution. Yet none of us use PCs or laptops to solely play movies, and the side-effect of a 4K screen is a very mixed performance. Icons, for example, appear ridiculously small. In short, 4K computer monitors aren't worth it right now. If you want to play a game in all its detailed glory, you'll need a seriously good graphics processing unit GPU , which can prove expensive!
Not always. Sometimes, older content will be blurrier than intended. Nonetheless, many films were filmed in higher resolution and only stored in p. That means the information originally captured on film was lost. Upscaling doesn't restore it. Upscaling merely infers data based on surrounding pixels. If you're sitting at a sensible distance from the television, upscaled movies will appear clearer.
Upscaling from a Blu-ray player is a great option if you still love your extensive DVD collection; however, your television is the limiting factor. Want to know how to become a successful freelancer? DVD upscaling is only an approximation of the high-definition viewing experience. The Blu-ray Disc format supports p, i, and p resolutions.
Compared to Blu-ray Disc, an upscaled DVD tends to look flatter and softer, especially in the background. There's a difference when looking at reds and blues.

I literally go ewwww, and throw out the DVD in disgust, as it looks awful to me. Prime collection: 1. Trading Score: 8. Reviews for this set seem to be solid, I'm hoping the purchase was worth the month's pay and I didn't succumb to "bigger is better. But I digress. Hopefully it was a worthwhile purchase, I'm beginning to grow skeptical, and it was a month's pay. However, to put it bluntly, DVDs look like crap.
Instead of scaling up to 60p, the new set apparently scales up to 24p, but whereas my others sets 32 and 40 inches look decent when upscaling, this once simply makes everything looks like there's so much noise dot crawl that frankly, it's difficult to watch. I get that the set itself is bigger, and that if it's more high-tech it will display more flaws, but is there anything in the settings I can change to mitigate this a little bit?
I also understand that it's partially down to the mastering of the disc itself, but I have put in some discs with pretty good AV reviews-the Raiders of the Lost Ark disc, for instance which was reference quality back when it came out-and some of it is still pretty difficult to watch.
Is there anything I can do in the settings? My bedroom is small, so I can't get very far away from the set-I'm about 18 feet or so at the moment, and since I'm not technically in the center of the room, I just use the SRS in the set, which is a little wonky.
Anyhow, are there any settings I can adjust to make this a little bit more palatable to the eyes? Originally Posted by hanshotfirst All times are GMT.
