Though it was Itachi who would carry out his will, the extinction of the Uchiha clan was Danzo's doing. He attacked Shisui and stole his eye against the wishes of Sarutobi, the only man both willing and able to use his sharingan on his own people and quell the tempers of the belligerent clan. Danzo did not even order the attack to the benefit of the Leaf. He collected the eyes of the piling Uchiha corpses, working them into his arm and effectively making himself an immortal ninja.

Before his treason to the Leaf, Orochimaru served Konoha during the war against the other great nations. The three Sannin found themselves besieged on all sides by stone ninja, slowly caving in the mountain with their jutsu.

Orochimaru insisted that they would not be able to escape with Jiraiya wounded and attempted to "mercifully" kill him. However, Tsunade intervened, putting herself between the Serpent and her friend. Discontent with Sarutobi's leadership and drunk with power, Danzo arranged for his Foundation assassins to attack the Third Hokage as he was roaming through the forest with his Anbu guards, under orders to kill him.

After the command had been given, he began preparing himself to become the Hokage without even considering if they had been successful. Once Hiruzen returned unscathed, he immediately knew of his "friend's" treachery. His response was one of mercy, but it came with a warning; he would not receive clemency a second time. Hiruzen would not die meaninglessly. He was willing to sacrifice his soul to take his former student with him, though only managed to cripple his arms. He has also shown to be able to propel himself for short distances by blowing. Danzo has the ability to summon a gigantic Baku, a mythical chimeric creature that devours dreams and nightmares, which displayed the ability to suck things into it's jowls.

Danzo also used Baku's sucking ability to increase the power of his wind jutsu. He has also placed a "Binding Curse Seal" on all of his Root ninjas, making it so they cannot reveal information about Root or Danzo without being paralyzed; he can also place this seal on opponents and activate it at will. He has the "Reverse Four Symbols Seal" which activates upon his death, it sucks in everything around him and seals it inside his body.

His right eye and right arm belonged to Shisui Uchiha. Aside from being able to use the Sharingan's abilities, he's also capable of using Shisui's unique Mangekyo Sharingan genjutsu called "Koto Amatsukami" which allows him to control people by placing thoughts into his opponent's mind which they believe are their own.

Also Danzo does not need to make eye contact for it to take effect unlike most other Sharingan-type genjutsus which usually need eye contact. The downside is that after it's use, he's not able to use it again for a couple hours. However even more macabre is that Danzo's right arm is covered in ten Sharingan which he uses for an ability called "Izanagi. It had the added power to teleport him after each of his "deaths. On top of that, he also possesses Hashirama's D. However, he had limited control of Hashirama's powers.
